In an music spotlight written by Bart Mendoza: “The Fire Eaters specialize in tunes that are all immensely danceable and are an excellent showcase for their virtuoso performances.

The six-piece group is comprised of a cast of local all-stars whose collective resume includes time in such notables as Genius of Soul, Society! and Silverleaf. Meanwhile, three Fire Eaters are also members of the musically like-minded Styletones.

As an instrumental combo, a lot of focus falls on keyboardist Tim Felten and guitarist Deron Gant, with saxophonist Gabriel Sundy adding superb accents and solos. However, as great as all the musicians are, the band’s songs depend on a hard-hitting groove, and here they have one of the keys to their sound; the rhythm section of Jesse Bowen and drummer Jake Najor, rock-solid stand outs.

Jazz musicians North Trio will perform during the happy hour set.

About the North Trio:

North Trio is a young jazz group in San Diego who combine elements of straight-ahead jazz, hip/hop jazz, and afrobeat influences. The group combines elegance with youthful energy in their eclectic mix of originals, jazz standards, and arrangements. Formed in 2011, the group consists of guitarist Dillon Casey (who has studied with classical guitar virtuoso Celin Romero and jazz guitar luminary Peter Sprague), bassist Tim McNalley (just out of high school and the son of bassist/Hutchins String Consort leader Joe McNalley), and drummer/percussionist Tyler Olson. Casey and McNalley first gained attention as members of the San Diego Music Awards-winning rock group the New Archaic. All three are currently members of the In Motion Trio, who recently received the “Best Jazz” award at the 2011 San Diego Music Awards.
